    Has China's Interregional Capital Mobility Been Low? A Spatial Econometric Estimation of the Feldstein-Horioka Equation

    We conducted a Feldstein-Horioka test for the degree of China's inter-provincial capital mobility each year from 1978 to 2007 using the spatial error model (SEM), a model of spatial econometrics considering spatial dependence, and a data set reflecting revision of historical national and provincial accounts after China's first economic census in 2004. We found that the likelihood ratio test rejected the null of no spatial error correlation, or the appropriateness of the standard OLS model (OLSM), for 17 out of 30 years and that the Akaike information criterion selected the SEM over the OLSM for 20 years. Our estimations demonstrate that the mobility was high until the late 80's, fell to a bottom in the mid-90's, recovered, peaked in the early 2000's, and has weakened recently, even though it has been argued that mobility has been low since 1978 reform, leaving the impression that it has consistently been low.fiscal and financial reform; Feldstein-Horioka paradox; spatial econometrics

    Anomalous gauge couplings of the Higgs boson at the CERN LHC: Semileptonic mode in WW scatterings

    We make a full tree level study of the signatures of anomalous gauge couplings of the Higgs boson at the CERN LHC via the semileptonic decay mode in WW scatterings. Both signals and backgrounds are studied at the hadron level for the Higgs mass in the range 115 GeV to 200 GeV. We carefully impose suitable kinematical cuts for suppressing the backgrounds. To the same sensitivity as in the pure leptonic mode, our result shows that the semileptonic mode can reduce the required integrated luminosity by a factor of 3. If the anomalous couplings in nature are actually larger than the sensitivity bounds shown in the text, the experiment can start the test for an integrated luminosity of 50 inverse fb.Comment: PACS numbers updated.     Assessing agglomeration economies in the Yangzi River Delta, China : a bayesian spatial econometric approach

    This paper estimates the elasticity of labor productivity with respect to employment density, a widely used measure of the agglomeration effect, in the Yangtze River Delta, China. A spatial Durbin model is presented that makes explicit the influences of spatial dependence and endogeneity bias in a very simple way. Results of Bayesian estimation using the data of the year 2009 indicate that the productivity is influenced by factors correlated with density rather than density itself and that spatial spillovers of these factors of agglomeration play a significant role. They are consistent with the findings of Ke (2010) and Artis, et al. (2011) that suggest the importance of taking into account spatial dependence and hitherto omitted variables

    Blog Advertising Effectiveness – An Ad Endorser Perspective

    Many consumers routinely gather product information and appraisals via the Internet before making purchase decisions. For them, blogs are an important information source. Therefore, enterprises have begun using blogs as a new and effective instrument of product marketing. However, selecting the blog type that optimizes advertising effectiveness is now an important issue in corporate advertising. This study classifies blogs into three types (celebrity blog, expert blog, and typical consumer blog) and defines product type (experience product and search product) and brand awareness (high and low) as two product constructs. The aim is to help enterprises evaluate the type and brand awareness of a product to be promoted and to select the blog type that maximizes advertising effectiveness (perceived risk, ad attitude, brand attitude, and purchase intention) in diffusing product information. A quasi-experiment design was adopted, and twelve experimental contexts were designed. A valid sample of over 2,000 responses was collected to study between-group differences in advertising effectiveness. The analytical results showed between-group difference in advertising effectiveness, which indicated that blog advertising effectiveness varies with different combinations of product constructs and blog types

    The History and the Future of the Psychology of Filial Piety: Chinese Norms to Contextualized Personality Construct

    In the field of psychology, filial piety is usually defined in terms of traditional Chinese culture-specific family traditions. The problem with this approach is that it tends to emphasize identification of behavioral rules or norms, which limits its potential for application in other cultural contexts. Due to the global trend of population aging, governments are searching for solutions to the accompanying financial burden so greater attention is being focused on the issue of elder care and its relevance to filial practices. We contend that the psychological investigation of filial piety in Chinese societies has progressed to the point that it can now provide a solid structure for research targeting intergenerational relations in other cultures. We describe an indigenous psychology approach that integrated Chinese historical, philosophical, and social trends to construct a model of filial piety in terms of the dual reciprocal and authoritarian filial aspects underlying parent–child relations: the dual filial piety model (DFPM). We use this model to re-conceptualize filial piety from its usual definition as a set of Chinese culture-specific norms to a contextualized personality construct represented by a pair of culturally-sensitive psychological schemas of parent–child interaction. We then describe how the DFPM can provide a framework for research on filial relations on individual, structural, societal, and cross-cultural levels. We conclude with a discussion of how the model may be able to integrate and extend Western research on intergenerational relations and contribute to the issue of elder care beyond Chinese societies
